Looking for a quick and easy DIY project to complete this weekend? We have just the thing for you.
Monarch recently partnered with DIY and renovation extraordinaire, Geneva Vanderzeil for a simple yet impressive furniture restoration. Geneva had been wanting to create a ‘designer look’ occasional chair for quite some time, and when she found this chair secondhand, her idea quickly became a reality!
Materials required to complete this DIY project:
- A pre-loved chair to upcycle (from Marketplace or a second-hand store)
- Monarch Elements Plant-Based Drop Sheet
- Sander or sanding block
- Monarch Walls, Doors & Trims Brushes
- Monarch Doors, Trims & Cupboard Roller + roller frame
- Paint bucket and tray
- Primer
- Paint
We have put together a step-by-step guide below, detailing everything you need to know to complete this project and recreate the look at home.
Step 1
Preparation is key. Geneva began by laying out her Elements plant-based drop sheet, protecting her workspace from any paint spills or mishaps.
Step 2
Once her space was ready, Geneva started by trimming the chair arms to her liking and then gave the entire chair a good sand.
Step 3
Geneva then added a thin coat of primer using a multi-purpose Monarch brush and a roller cover which has been specifically designed for high sheen surfaces, perfect for a furniture restoration!
Step 4
Once dried, it was time for paint. Geneva opted for a stunning and glossy taupe shade for her chair. Once again, Geneva reached for her Monarch brushes and rollers to apply two smooth coats of paint.
Step 5
To finish, Geneva placed the web seating back in place and added cushions, with two draped over the arms for the perfect on trend look.
There you have it! This simple yet impressive furniture restoration shows how a fresh coat of paint can completely transform a second-hand chair into a trendy piece perfect for the home!
