DIY July: Elevate Your Space Using VJ Panels

12 July 2024

In the world of interiors, a white wall can be timeless, but they sometimes leave a space looking plain and uninspired.

We’ve already shown you how good a bedroom can look using preempanels, but another way to incorporate a sophisticated texture to any room is with traditional VJ panels.

Sarah Wimberley from House vs Sarah used them to give her master bedroom an overhaul, along with her favourite Monarch paint accessories.

Materials required to complete this DIY project

We have put together a step-by-step guide below, detailing everything you need to know to complete this project and recreate the look at home.

Step 1

Measure the space before ordering your VJ panels.

Once they arrive, use a stud finder to locate where the walls studs are and use your pencil to mark them on your baseboard. Use a circular saw to trim the tops of each panel.

For tricky areas around powerpoints, use a jigsaw to cut out these sections.

Step 2

Use the caulking gun and construction adhesive to secure the panels to the wall. For added protection, use a nail gun into the stud. Start in one corner of the wall and work your way along.

Step 3

Using a nail gun can leave tiny holes in your panels, so Sarah used her hero product – Monarch Mini Fill Sand Go – to seamlessly fill and sand these imperfections.

The built-in sanding sponge features an ideal grit for using on VJ panels. Once the panels were looking as good as new, it’s time to paint!

Step 4

Cut around the VJ panel with your Walls Doors & Trim Brush and roll them out with a Walls & Ceilings Roller Cover.

Painting VJ panels is such an easy project so it’s the perfect way to get the kids involved with a DIY activity!

Voila! An easy way to make a huge impact using VJ panels and a fresh coat of paint.
