Create Your Own Christmas Present Wrapping Station

5 December 2024

With Christmas around the corner, you’ve probably got a million things to do and a lot of presents to wrap! It can be frustrating when you have to rummage through the back of cupboards trying to find all of your wrapping paper, ribbons and tape.

Or why not take a leaf out of Geneva Vanderzeil’s book and create your own bespoke present wrapping station? It’s a super easy project to complete in a couple of hours.

Materials required to complete this DIY project

Step 1: Prep Your Rack

While playing CD’s may be out of fashion, you may still have an old display rack somewhere in your home. If not, have a look on Facebook Marketplace or an op shop, which is where Geneva found hers.

Take out the small inner shelves and use an electric sander to remove the varnish.

Step 2: Prime

Lay out your drop sheet. Apply an undercoat with your Cutting In & Framing Brush. This will help to prep the surface so your topcoat will cover beautifully!

Step 3: Paint

Choose a colour for your wrapping station. Geneva opted for a pale pink on the outside, with a more vibrant tone on the inner shelves to create some interesting texture.

Use your brush to get into the hard-to-reach areas and go over the flat surfaces with your mini roller. Geneva used our High Gloss & Smooth Surfaces Mini Roller which is made from a premium seamless foam - perfect for applying over varnish!

Step 4: Add Wrapping Paper Rollers

Measure the width of your rack. Cut your dowel to these measurements using your hand saw and drill holes in the side of the rack large enough to place them in.

Put your wrapping paper tube through the dowel. Depending on how many rows of wrapping paper you want, keep repeating this step.

Step 5: Add Final Flourishes

Add ribbons to the outside and voila… a beautiful wrapping station to be proud of!
