Renew your Drawers in 2 Steps

Project overview

A chest of drawers is a functional piece of furniture that can turn a bedroom into something beautiful. Renewing a chest of drawers with a pop of colour can bring a room to life. With 2 easy steps prepare & paint, you can transform any tired old drawers.

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Estimated time: 2 hours
  • People power: 1-2
  • Budget: Low

Step-by-step

STEP 1: Preparing your brushes

If you’re using water-based paint soak your brush in an inch of water for 10-15min, then remove and spin in between your hands to remove excess water. If you’re using oil-based paint, follow the same steps using turps.

STEP 2: Preparing the drawers

Prepare your Drawers by applying an undercoat. Undercoating is important as raw timber is thirsty and you don’t want to end up applying 4 coats. Applying an undercoat also helps the top coat adhere better, giving you much brighter colour.

STEP 3: Apply 1st top coat

Use a mini roller or a quality brush to apply your top coat for that lovely smooth finish.

You don’t need to wash out your brush/ roller in between coats. Simply wrap in foil to keep it moist.
