The golden era of your life begins with your Study Room. Designing and decorating your study room will not only bring life to your whole house but will also enhance your learning process. Our next Renew in 2 project focuses on bringing a study room to life with the help of stencilling effect, in just 2 easy steps.

  • Difficulty: Medium
  • Estimated time: 1 day
  • People power: 2
  • Budget: Medium

STEP 1: Prepare your brushes

If you’re using water-based paint soak your brush in an inch of water for 10-15min, then remove and spin in between your hands to remove excess water. If you’re using oil-based paint, follow the same steps using turps.

STEP 2: Prepare your rollers

Whether you’re using water-based or oil-based paints, rinse your roller in running water and run your hand up and down the roller to get rid of excess lint. Shake the roller. Attach the roller to the frame and spin it quickly off a wall or other flat surface to remove the extra water.

STEP 3: Prepare your wall

For any paint job, preparation is critical. Fill any cracks with gap filler, sand and dust them once it is dry, and be sure to wipe down your wall with Monarch Sugar Soap to remove any dust, dirt or stains. Finally, apply quality painters tape around the edges of your wall to ensure a clean edge for painting.

STEP 4: STEP 1: Paint your wall

Cutting in involves painting a margin around the edges of the wall where the roller can’t go. Using your quality Monarch Cutting In & Framing 50mm brush, paint small strokes around the edges of your wall. Load your Monarch Walls & Ceiling Roller 12mm NAP with paint and start rolling. Start from the edge of the wall towards the middle, about half a rollers’-width from where you’ve cut in using a light-to-moderate pressure. Keep your paint tray about half a metre away from you for easy loading. Apply 2nd coat for enhancing bright colours.

STEP 5: STEP 2: Stenciling your wall

First identify the position on your wall where you want to place the stencil. Adhere the stencil carefully with painter’s tape on all sides of the stencil. Load your Monarch 100mm Microfibre SmartLock Mini Roller lightly with paint, wipe off any access paint with the paper towel before applying it on the stencil.
Lightly start rolling your paint on the stencil in an upward motion. Peel the stencil off the wall while paint is still damp. Change the position of the stencil as per your desired area and repeat the above process.

STEP 6: Finishing up

Congratulations, you’re done! Scrape any leftover paint back into the tin for re-use. Wash your brushes and rollers thoroughly so you can use them for your next project.
