Your garage is a space that is so often utilised but very much unloved. Refreshing a garage doesn’t have to break the bank or take up much of your time. With low-cost simple techniques and the right tools, you can transform your whole garage into a workshop or the entertainment room you’ve always wanted.
If you’re using water-based paint soak your brush in an inch of water for 10-15min, then remove and spin in between your hands to remove excess water. If you’re using oil-based paint, follow the same steps using turps instead of water.
Whether you’re using water-based or oil-based paints, rinse your roller in running water and run your hand up and down the roller to get rid of excess lint. Shake the roller to remove most of the water then attach the roller to the frame and spin it quickly off a wall or other flat surface to remove the extra water.
For any paint job, preparation is critical. Fill any cracks with gap filler and sand down your garage wall, then dust and wash down to get that perfect smooth surface to start painting.
Cut in your wall first with a 50mm Monarch Cutting In & Framing brush. When painting a textured wall, it’s preferred to roll with a 270mm Monarch Rough & Textured Surfaces roller cover to get ideal coverage. It’s vital to use a quality brush and quality roller so there are no brush or roller marks all over your garage wall.
Repeat the process while painting the second coat to bring more brightness to your chosen colour.
Congratulations, you’re done! Scrape any leftover paint back into the tin for re-use. Wash your brushes and rollers thoroughly so you can use them for your next project.
