Adding decorations to your shopping bags is a fun way to put those arts and crafts skills of yours to work. In our next Renew in 2 project we show you two versatile and easy ways to create a personalised shopping bag in 2 styles.

Step-by-step

STEP 1: Preparing your brushes
STEP 1: Preparing your brushes

If you’re using water-based paint, soak your brush in an inch of water for 10-15min, then remove and spin in between your hands to remove excess water. If you’re using oil-based paint, follow the same steps using turps instead of water.

STEP 2: Apply stickers on bags
STEP 2: Apply stickers on bags

Apply the alphabet stickers in your design of choice directly on to the canvas bags. We will be painting over the stickers to create a beautiful outline effect in the shape of your design.

STEP 3: Paint your bag – Style 1
STEP 3: Paint your bag – Style 1

Dip the Monarch 22mm Windows & Doors brush into the paint and gently dab the paint brush over and around the stickers to create an outline. Once you’re happy with the paint coverage, peel the stickers off while the paint is still damp to reveal your finished design. Keep the bag flat in an out-of-the-way place until the paint is completely dry.

PRO-TIP: Avoid overloading your brush with paint, as it may seep underneath the stickers.

STEP 4: Paint your bag – Style 2
STEP 4: Paint your bag – Style 2

For your 2nd style, use different shaped stickers or decals and paint around them to create an outline effect. Use bright colours to create an attractive design on your canvas bags.

PRO-TIP: Use chalk paint, as it is durable and easily washable when you want to change designs

STEP 5: Finishing up

Congratulations, you’re done! Scrape any leftover paint back into the paint jar for re-use. Wash your brushes thoroughly so you can use them for your next project.
