How To Stain a Timber Deck


Did you know that your deck should be re-stained every year in order to keep it looking good as new?

This is particularly vital if there are sections of the deck exposed to direct sunlight.

Luckily, Monarch’s Decking & Stain Applicator Kit includes all the tools you’ll need to get your deck back into shape!

 

Materials Required to Complete this DIY Project

  • Monach Decking & Stain Applicator Kit
  • Sander (sandpaper or electric sander)
  • Pressure Washer
  • Decking stain of your choice
  • Decking wash of your choice
Sand

Sand

Sand the deck down to make the surface nice and smooth. Depending on the condition of the deck and your experience level, either use sandpaper or an electric sander.
Wash & Scrub

Wash & Scrub

Use the scrubbing brush head and pole (from the kit) to apply a high-quality deck wash. This will help remove any discolouration from the timber slats and prime the surface for staining. Once done, rinse it off using a pressure hose and buff with the scrubbing brush

Stir your chosen decking stain and pour it into the paint tray. Attach the Lambswool Applicator to the pole.

Apply stain approximately 3 slats at a time for the full length of the deck.

Use your brush in those hard to reach areas between slats and on railings. Once the deck is fully covered, leave it to dry (refer to the can of your decking stain for recommended drying time.
Second Coat

Second Coat

Once dry, repeat the same process from the previous step when applying the second coat. There you have it! Your deck is now ready to start entertaining!
